Programs


YouthWorks is Gaston County's Workforce Investment Act (WIA) Program for youth. YouthWorks is a year-round employment and training program for in school, out-of-school, and at-risk youth ages 16 - 21. The program provides both academic and career related experiences designed to expose youth to the world of work, and to help them acquire the necessary skills and knowledge to obtain a job and advance in employment.

In addition to the job-training portion of the program, participants will have basic education and mediation while developing their employability skills with opportunities to develop citizenship and interpersonal skills.
     
Get into Energy Career Pathways!


The Gaston County Workforce Development Board introduces a new energy career pathway, Nuclear Power Plant Operator/Technician Program.  Classes will be offered at Gaston College.  Attainment of an Associate’s Degree in Applied Science in Nuclear Energy Technology upon successful completion of courses.  Possible internship/co-op with Duke Energy.

 

Requirements are as follows:

 

Age 16-26

GED/ADHS/High school diploma

No Felony Convictions

Must meet income eligibility

Valid NC drivers license

Drug/Alcohol Free

Community Outreach - Fall Job Fair


On September 28, Gaston YouthWorks participated in the Gaston JobLink Centers Annual Fall Job Fair at Union Road Church, sharing information about the Youthworks Programs.  Over 600 people attended this very successful event.  

 
On August 31, Gaston YouthWorks hosted the Eldercare Recruiting Session in partnership with Community Care of North Carolina.
